Two nights to go …

I have two nights more at this place. Thursday afternoon I go to a little motel to stay the night.

Friday at 7.30 AM the removalists are arriving to pack up and drive approx ten kilometres down Old Cleveland, take a right at Carindale, a couple of lefts past the mall and a right into my new street. Then the unpacking.

I’m being saved from all this as I happened to pick up a virus somewhere, and will be completely useless without having somewhere to frequently sit or lie down.

My job for the last few days has been to pack up the Lego. Well, there are definitely going to be a few changes happening in how I store things. Luckily thebrickarchitect.com is rejigging their label system which will be a wonderful resource.

And there will have to be some serious rebuilding, because of course several builds did not take kindly to being packed up. Unfortunately, as you can see below, Jed has stormed out of the scene, taking Jackie’s crane on his truck out of the picture!

Five years already with WordPress … I am amazed!

On The Run …

Lol, you’ll have to look down the bottom for picture I tried to post here. I tried twice, there are two pics.

Not that I’m really running or even jogging. Though at times I’m up for an elderly heavy-footed jog up the corridor, this is a one-fingered jog over my mobile’s key pad.

In other words, I have no time for regular posts. No time for fiction, construction or even a slightly fictionalized cat story. This is an update on what’s going on in my life.

Next May the rent where I’m living is set go astronomical, $700 AUD per week! I decided no way can I afford that.

So I’m in the process of buying a place in a retirement village. Two meetings already with management, and half a dozen phone calls to secure my unit. Today I am going there to sign the contract and pay what they call a ‘soft’ deposit.

I laughed about that. Two weeks rent at the present rates! But I guess they know that people not working in the money economy have their money tied up in banks and super annuation schemes.

Blogging Stats: An Outlier

I usually do an annual assessment of this blog where I have a look at what is working and what’s not. This year I have an ‘outlier’ to consider. This is a post that does so well that it outstrips every other post with Views. Even now, eighteen months since it was posted, search engines are still finding it, and still gets between 1-5 Views per week, with so far, over 150 Views in total.

If it was one of my usual non-fiction posts I would be over the moon! Ecstatic, even, to think that so many people appreciate my writing. I would definitely then analyze its every word, tag and category, to see whether I could replicate its success.

Instead I will analyze it for the elements that allowed it to cross over into ‘Lego-technical-expertise-country’. I think what is actually happening is that Lego enthusiasts are hitting on it in the belief that it is one of the xyz posts they’ve heard about explaining a particularly nitty-gritty technique by way of a technicolor video or some such.

When they discover it isn’t what they expected, they just as quickly click away. Giving me a bunch of ‘false-positives’ in the blog’s stats. Lol, I won’t be posting the title of the offending post in this article! I’m not after more ‘false-positives’!

But seriously, when by now more that a hundred and fifty people click away with their expectations unfulfilled, that can start to have repercussions for a blog. Time to do something about it. I’m thinking of combining the information in all three posts pertaining to that subject, and deleting the originals. That way I still have the information available.

Modem troubles

My modem is ‘on the blink’, which is a colloquial way of saying it has started to fail. Sometimes its little lights work well and my computer has an internet connection.

Sometimes they’re blinking and I know then there’s a gappy reception and goodbye to getting anything done online except by mobile. That means one-fingered typing for me.

I’m sitting on instalment 16 of Cat Tales, with no way that I have found of getting the photos from the computer onto my phone.

People will tell me the cloud and/or dropbox. Seems like neither of them like going in reverse. Mind you that could be a personal bugbear.

Anyway, there it is. Another hold-up.

Blogging

Blogging by mobile/cell phone is a new thing for me. Entering this one fingered …

My laptop is frozen and I need to find a repair place that I can easily get to.

In former times I used a business that sent technicians on house visits. The local one of that sort is silent at the end of the phone line. Not even a message service. Brrr brrrr. Brrr brrrr.

Just then tried to find the function with which to get an image … lol, went to Jetpack instead and had to sign up for that, to be able to get back to this.

So maybe not an image today!

Nope! Did get a pic! This fearless explorer motorbike riding mechanic suits my present state of mind.

Blogging …

A lot of my attention in the past two days has gone to the new blog I’m setting up. After quite a lot of useless head-banging over the past couple of months trying to revamp this one, I looked for a different strategy.

Setting up a whole new blog … a second blog that will be … for my Lego interests … I will learn enough to re-do this one. At least, that’s the plan. [‘That’s the plan’ is a quote from Serenity (2005) a western-style science fiction film. One of my favorites.]

Above is the banner pic… I got it out of the trashcan just then. Completely unsuitable. One thing I learnt already. Too busy. And as is often the case with my photos these days with an encroaching age-related tremble, it isn’t sharp. That aspect fortunately has one of the easier solutions. Like, use a tripod for pity’s sake! And I will. Next, I need to build a lightbox. Thank you, BrickNerd, for your instructions.
