The Same Old New Rules

Rather than becoming habits, after about two weeks of mindfully performing new rules and routines, I start to take my attention off them.

Fatal! Because I’ll start to forget them. And I bet nearly everyone one of you have the same issue.

So … a new rule I’ve been trying to make into a forever habit for over four months now, is getting mobile while using the mobile phone. IE walk around the house while talking with friends and family.

Yesterday did I do that? Hardly. Spent most of my time lounging on the couch despite hearing hints, along with the call, of busy diligence in the background.

Life admin calls need a different strategy. They usually need reference to paperwork and online forms. Although there are often lengthy waits involved, you can’t walk too far from your desk.

Such as when I called the RTA (Residential Tenants Authority) about the return of my rental bond pertaining to my unit in Coorparoo. Which I left back in March this year, about eight and a half months ago.

I was 23rd in line to a call center I was informed by a ‘kind’ call center robot. My heart sank. But I was updated every 60 seconds.

Surprisingly it only took about twenty minutes for that call center to work through that number of callers. The matter is not yet resolved, but since it was Friday afternoon, I arranged to call back next week.

My social caller a few weeks back … when I walked around the house and did almost 1000 steps toward my daily goal … and I discussed whether Brisbane will be ready for its go at hosting the Olympics eight years from now.

He doubts it. I wouldn’t know. He’s in building and has not seen any of the promised new venues even begun. Though eight years seems plenty of time, a really big venue will take that amount of time and all the available expertise all by itself.

We decided there should be a new rule. Any city taking this on–hosting the Games–should use what venues they have. Is it really necessary for the Games to grow bigger and bigger? A howl of protest would go up, I’m sure.

There. I’ve reminded myself to get back on the path to getting more active. Maybe this time I’ll remember to keep going!

Out Walking …

My first walk around the block … south along Carindale Street, east up hill and down on Winstanley Road, then north along Surbiton until Banchory Court.

It seemed a long way but at only about 2000 steps which equals about one kilometer, not very far at all.

Not yet off the premises, discovered that this plant, that I had thought non-flowering, is blooming.

Saw a few fungi … maybe three different species. Here’s one …

Last, a real surprise. A tiny native violet in amongst all the sturdy fast-growing exotics…

That one could’ve been sharper. My apologies. It was a long way down and shadowed by that plant adjacent.

I wonder if there’s an FB page for feral lego?

Nice bit of moss too

Liminal How?

Liminal space how, people will be thinking.

Liminal in that I am in a between space and time.

Up to yesterday I lived in a medium-sized all-ages complex with 90 separate households. At least 20 young children, 5 infants, and numerous teenagers whom I mostly didn’t see. A handful of elders.

Lived there for three years through recovery from chemo, through the latter part of Covid restrictions, walking and exploring nearby parks. Stone’s Corner was almost next door. I walked East Ekebin Park. Moorhen Flats. Bentley’s. The Common. Bowie’s Flat Park and all the little green places in between.

Lived there through the extreme disappointment that chemo didn’t also fix my myalgic encephalomyelitis, and so two years after the end of the chemo, my ME flared. A disease that once you have it you will always have it. Can be kept semi-controlled only by extreme pacing, strict dieting, a shoal of supplements and not catching any viruses. Continuing to live the Covid life, in other words.

Lived there getting more and more involved in Lego. thebrickarchitect.com ; AFOL. MOC. brickresales.com.au ; bricklink.com ; rebrickable.com ; all became part of my language. I packed a large stack of boxes, two wide four high, with the whole of Reet’s Brick Town in there, plus all the remaining parts and separate builds. Lol, a lot of rebuilding to be done later, I suspect. Bosley & Co will be busy for months on the repairs.

The place between, as I mentioned yesterday, is Isla House. A compact room, with a large communal living space at the back of the house, kitchen dining facilities, and garden strip alongside the outdoor areas. Pity that the weather is still so hot. Summers are spinning out. I’m very tempted to go out and get some cuttings for my new place. I wonder if figs will grow from cuttings?

Below a pane in the bathroom for my frosted glass collection, looking out on the perimeter fence and the garden section.
